Burnet, Texas, was first established as Fort Croghan on the Texas frontier in 1849. The estimated population of Burnet City in 1999 was 4,776. It is the county seat of Burnet County. Burnet, Texas is officially known as the bluebonnet capital of the state, named so by the 67th Texas Legislature. Burnet, known for beautiful display of wildflowers each spring, hosts the Annual Bluebonnet Festival every April.┬áBesides flora, Burnet is known for its outcropping of granite and the famed Longhorn Cavern. Eagle Eye Observatory is also located in Burnet, in the Canyon of the Eagles Nature Park. It is one of the nation’s few observatories offering public access.
