Giddings, Texas
Giddings, Texas is the county seat of Lee County. The city was founded in 1871 when the Houston and Texas Central Railway came to the area. Picturesque Giddings was named for Jabez Deming Giddings, who was instrumental in bringing the railway to the area. Giddings, TX is located 55 miles east of Austin and 100 miles west of Houston. In 2000, Giddings had a population of 5,101 residents.
Gidding's slogan is "Giddings Texas...Experience Hometown Hospitality." The Annual Texas Word Wrangler Festival is held at the Gidding Library and Cultural Center each year. Recreational facilities and programs are abundant in Giddings. There is a covered rodeo arena with a seating capacity of 3,000 and a public swimming pool. Camping, fishing, hiking and boating are available at Nails Creek Park. The Giddings Country Club features a nine-hole golf course.
