New Braunfels, Texas

New Braunfels, Texas  is an old-fashioned town in the heart of the Texas Hill Country region. Part of the San Antonio Metropolitan area, New Braunfels was settled by German immigrants and named for Braunfels in Germany. (The name means “brown rock.”)  New Braunfels, TX is the county seat of Comal County. New Braunfels was established in 1845 by the German Prince, Carl of Solms-Braunfels, Commissioner General of the "Society for the Protection of German Immigrants in Texas." The 2006 population of New Braunfels was 49,969 (U.S. Census). This was a 30.6% population increase from the year 2000.

Many tourists are lured to New Braunfels by the cold-spring rivers that run through the city. Tubing down the Guadalupe River or the Comal River is a popular attraction. New Braunfels is the site of one of the most famous water parks in the United States, the Schlitterbahn Water Park Resort.  Dining is available at authentic German beer gardens.
