San Marcos, Texas, the gateway to the coveted Texas Hill Country region, is located halfway between the Sate Capital of Austin and San Antonio. San Marcos is the county seat of Hays County. San Marcos is one of the oldest continuously inhabited sites in North America; Native Americans lived along the riverbanks as far back as 12,000 years ago. As of 2006, the population of San Marcos was 47,181, a 32% increase from the 2000 Census estimate.

San Marcos, TX has many tourist attractions. The San Marcos River provides recreation in the form of swimming, canoeing, and tubing. Rio Vista Falls is noted for three drops considered perfect for the ultimate tubing and kayaking experience. Wonder World offers visitors a chance to explore an earthquake-formed cave and to ride to the peak of the 110-foot Tejas Observation Tower. The Texas State University-San Marcos Aquarena Center is a habitat for endangered species and a learning center located at the site of a former amusement park.
